It’s a strange job: The co-hosts of the podcast, Zoom cohosts, have a long history of hosting popular podcasts like The Daily Show, The Colbert Report and The Colbert Effect.
It was all done to make money, the co-owners of Zoom tell Bloomberg.
It’s what they do.
In other words, it’s a way to make some money.
They’re very much not doing it for a reason, the company says.
The podcast, though, is in trouble, and the coziness of the cohost job could be at risk.
“The Zoom Co has been in an unsustainable relationship with our co-founders and co-creator Chris Darden,” said CEO Mike Smith in a statement to Bloomberg.
“We want to move on, and have moved on with the podcast.
We’ve moved on.
We’re moving on.”
The podcast is one of many that have struggled to make it big.
Last year, The Daily Podcast of the Year went into voluntary bankruptcy.
A few months ago, the podcast was acquired by a startup called Audible.
Both podcasting companies have faced criticism for their business models, but the relationship between Zoom and Darden has been rocky.
It took Darden months to get the podcast off the ground, and it took Smith months to sign the deal, which he later described as “long, hard work.”
It’s hard to say whether the Zoom co-creators are hurting their podcast.
“It’s not something that we’re doing for fun,” Smith said.
“Our primary focus is to make sure we can sustain this podcast.
It doesn’t mean that we don’t have other interests, other podcasts.
We do.”
In the meantime, the pod is on hiatus, and Smith says he won’t be involved in its future.
Darden declined to comment to Bloomberg on the situation.
Zoom cofounders say they’re still doing their best to make the podcast better.
“One of the things that we have always had to work on is making sure that the podcast is as relevant as possible for people and for a wider audience,” said Darden in a recent interview with the New York Times.
“That is really important for the podcast to continue to do well.
It just takes time, and I’ve been very fortunate to have that privilege.”
